Role Summary
The Shop Mechanic will diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of equipment and small engines. This role is ideal for an experienced mechanic to work in a fast-paced shop environment. In this role you will have a passion to work with other employees, customers, vendors, and others in the community. You will coordinate with the Shop Manager to ensure a high level of efficiency and accuracy within the shop, yard, and office, assisting the Shop Manager and crew to ensure all required tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
- Safety leadership: Lead by example with a safe, attentive approach to all shop and yard work.
- Diesel & heavy equipment: Troubleshooting and repairing all equipment including skid steers, mini-excavators, mini-skids, and other diesel engine machines.
- Small engine equipment: Routine maintenance on lawnmowers, chainsaws, skid steers, tractors, and similar outdoor equipment.
- Parts ordering: Order necessary parts and materials needed to complete timely repairs and scheduled maintenance.
- Shop maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and tool staging.
- Work documentation: Document work performed and communicate repair needs clearly to the Shop Manager and staff.
- Customer support: Load/unload customers as needed and complete required documentation for a 5-star customer experience.
- Other duties and tasks as required by management in the shop and yard.
Skills & Education Requirements
Core criteria for the position
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License: Clean driving record is required.
- Diesel & Hydraulic Experience: Proven record working on diesel equipment/machinery and hydraulic system maintenance.
- Small Engine Repairs: Experience repairing and tuning small gas engines.
- Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, strong problem-solving abilities, and ability to follow instructions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication with strong customer service skills.
- High degree of patience and ability to offer constructive collaboration.
Preferred Experience
Diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and small engine repair.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to chemicals including gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene, and cleaning solvents.
